Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities comprises over 125 full-and part-time faculty researching and teaching in nine departments. Over 3,000 undergraduate, masters and PhD students from across Canada and around the world are enrolled in our programs. They join the many thousands who have graduated from humanities programs at McMaster since its establishment in 1887.

The vision of our Faculty is centered on excellence in research, innovation and teaching. Of course, visions are nothing without achievements. McMaster Humanities’ achievements are everywhere: from the research projects and innovative teaching of our faculty to the intellectual and social engagement of our students at McMaster and in the wider world.

Science

The Faculty of Science at McMaster is a large community of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students, and staff dedicated to promoting excellence in learning and research. Over 200 full time faculty work to provide educational and research opportunities for students, and conduct pioneering research in fields that span from the life sciences (biology, biochemistry, kinesiology, psychology, geography and earth sciences) to the physical sciences (chemistry, physics and astronomy) to the mathematical and computational sciences. Students are taught by leading scientific researchers, in fields ranging from study of the cosmos and characterization of materials to ground-breaking exploration of mechanisms of the cell and changes in the natural environment.

Social Sciences

With the world changing rapidly, and seemingly unpredictably, there is no better time to study Social Sciences. The faculty prides itself on combining excellence and innovation in the classroom with global excellence in research. Social Sciences opens students’ minds to new ideas and information, hones critical analytic skills and provides the communication and research tools needed to understand and engage in the contemporary world.
